WNIJ Interview
October 15, 2020
One of Jones’s top priorities is combating climate change through an infrastructure plan that makes use of regenerative agricultural practices.
“All the time when we’re driving around, we see fields, fields everywhere. It’s all corn, it’s all soybeans, it’s monoculture" they said. "And with there being so much farmland out here, I think it’s really remiss to ignore agriculture as a large part of not only an infrastructure package, but also as a plan to combat ecological collapse.”
Among the groups Jones says they hope to reach out to are voters who mistrust the current government for its failure to act on meaningful issues.
La Salle’s 10-year plan during Strategic Community Planning

Jones was able to get the ideal of “Walkable City” as a goal for the city of Lasalle’s 10 year Strategic Planning, though was unable to secure “Community Garden” as a priority.
“Roy Jones of Earlville said they are excited the meetings had gone in such a positive direction and is looking forward to seeing the projects implemented in the future.”
“Deb Miranda of Earlville said she was excited about the aspect of public transportation because it would bring more people to the community and get the community ‘moving about.’ ’Rural communities are really stressed for any type of transportation,’ she said. ‘The [North Central Area Transit] is great, but it’s limited.’”
Jones urges La Salle County Board to vote against, advises residents to reject “‘nonsanctuary’ status”

“All communities in our district are dealing with the reality that there are not enough resources budgeted to enact a comprehensive network of humanitarian support for residents or new arrivals. This is scary, but now is the time for us to reorganize to ensure we have the resources going forward for existing community groups to serve our area, working to ensure real food security and housing equity. … How have the governments of this county reprioritized housing equity, food security, and access to services that assure quality of life?”
